Chris Alcock will speak at this year’s CoreNet Symposium in Sydney on “A Tale of Two Cities”, a provocative comparison of Sydney and Melbourne as the premier hub for Australian commerce. The presentation will strongly put the case that Sydney’s ability to grow and evolve is severely constrained by its topography, its transport networks and the availability of developable land, compared to Melbourne which has almost unlimited capacity. He will postulate that these faactors will widen the already significant gap in the availability and affordability of commercial real estate in the two centres, with the potential for Melbourne to become the dominant centre in the long term.
